Since 1882, Fishburne’s athletic and parade field has gone nameless. Today, Anderson Field at Fishburne Military School stands as a permanent reminder of the determination and brotherhood of generations of Fishburne men. In a dedication ceremony on Thursday, April 3, 2008, held before the Corps of Cadets, faculty, staff, alumni and visiting VIPs, Charles F. “Dusty” Anderson was honored for his contribution to the school’s athletic legacy.

Anderson, who attended East Carolina University on a football scholarship after FMS, was a stand-out athlete on Fishburne’s 1963-1964 football team. Anderson is currently a real estate executive in Las Vegas, Nevada. He holds a BS in Psychology and has been a successful restaurateur. In his remarks to the crowd on Thursday, Anderson noted “I am honored and overwhelmed. . .it is a privilege to give back.”

The newly minted Anderson Field sign atop Fishburne’s scoreboard was unveiled along with a bronze plaque which reads: “This field is named in honor of and dedicated to Charles F. “Dusty” Anderson whose exemplary leadership is representative of generations of Fishburne men who upheld our athletic honor on this field.” The plaque will be placed at the entrance to the field’s amphitheatre seating area.

On hand for the ceremony was Anderson’s FMS teammate and friend, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, Fishburne Class of 1964, who praised Anderson as a “life-long friend.” During his Cadetship, Anderson and his family befriended McMahon and opened their home to him, sparking a friendship which has lasted decades. During his brief remarks, McMahon told the FMS Cadets to cherish their own brotherhood as he and Anderson cherished theirs.

Following the event, the two men stayed to talk with groups of eager Cadets and enjoyed a long lunch with the Corps.

BG William Alexander, Fishburne’s ninth Superintendent and a 1964 graduate, summarized the event saying, “today is a great day for Fishburne Military School. . .as we recognize the dedication that generations of Fishburne men have displayed on this field. This dedication is no better illustrated than in the life of Dusty Anderson.”
